There's not much to tell. Name's Lighter. When I'm not too busy being kidnapped, you can find me in the Outer Ring. As the undefeated Champion, I defend the honor of the Sons of Calydon.

Caesar's more of the reader between us, but she never lets me touch the books I pick up for her. Movies... disaster? Romance is alright too. Music is whatever's playing in Steeltusk. Though when boss and Lucy get on the piano, it's got a nice sound to it. As for food... anything convenient and edible. Taste is a bonus, I guess. On the go or in a Hollow, lollipops work fine for me.

Thanks. I know it doesn't exactly match up with the image you'd expect of someone in a lawless biker gang, but even the Outer Ring is a place where you can get plenty by bowing your head or bending a knee. I'd do anything to get back to them.

[ A surreptitious and single-minded urge, underscored more by what he isn't saying. ]

So. What position do you have at home that's got you so cooped up, in comparison?

[He tucks this knowledge away, safely stored in memory like a secret. A piece of the man named Lighter. That next question, however —]

Oh, well... I don't know that it's worth getting into. It certainly wouldn't be as compelling as the Sons of Calydon.

[How the turn tables. Strange that he can discuss such a tender thing as his sister, but when it comes to his own notoriety, the failure of those steps that have carried him here with a shadow at his back... Shame aches, shockingly breathless.]

It was a position of power, I suppose, but it wouldn't mean much to you without explaining... other things. You would probably regret asking. The important part is that I — left.

[ Deflective, Lighter notes silently. But not in the way where he feels as though he's been cast off of something, as a shield, but guided by a gentle hand to look the other direction. Away from a light that could blind him, if he dared look too long.

His curiosity sates and that's a deliberate choice he makes, crossing his arms over his middle. ]

It's true that we're on a bit of a time limit. [ Thirty minutes, if he recalls. ] Another time, then. Over lunch, preferably, rather than all this.

[ An idle invitation for later, to take or to leave. ]

Did you leave by choice?

We are. I'm not sure how much time is left.

[And, how strange, that he dislikes the idea of that inevitable ending. He's enjoying this, even as they visit a topic that remains a raw wound in him, freshly scoured.]

But no, I didn't. I would have stayed if things had gone differently, but... I suspect it was an inevitable outcome. A necessary one. [A soft exhalation.] Still, failure besets everyone uniquely. What do you do when your goal is no longer attainable?

[ Lighter's quiet a moment longer in consideration of that question. It's not like he has much room to talk; a devotion long dead still stalks his heels, day in and day out. He pays restitution to the ghosts and only wishes it was enough to soothe the ache of failure. Of all the scars he harbors, that one must be the worst.

Sniffing slightly, thoughts coalescing as he rubs the empty space between his collarbones, he settles on: ]

You change your heart. And if you can't do it alone, you find people who'll help you.

Wise words.

[He means it, even if a lightness touches his tone now — but only because he is smiling unseen. How strange, that such encouragement would leave him feeling warm rather than left out in the cold, as so many other sentiments have in the past.]

Are you volunteering yourself, sir?

[ He barks a laugh, the sound of it stoked low beneath the pleasant char of his voice. Coldness is a difficult thing to mirror between two people for a significant amount of time — inevitably, closeness always begets warmth. ]

I told you, didn't I? If you're having trouble, come and find me. Even if it's rewriting your fate.

[harmonial]

Thank you. That means more to me than I can say.

[There's warmth in his tone, as well as a tiredness that creeps in on little feet.]

Our time's almost up, I think. I have to admit — I'm reluctant to leave.

[Let's not talk about that 'LUST' button... Well, Sunday is deliberately not looking at it.]

[ He knew it'd have to end, eventually. Likewise, he doesn't immediately think of the button on his peripherals, focus instead honed on the shifted cadence of the other man's voice. Better, he thinks. It's the best he can hope for — leaving something just a little better than when he'd found it. ]

Hey, don't worry. I'll see you again soon. Right?

[harmonial]

Right. At least, I'd hope so.

[Soft breath, spoken in an exhale. He carries Lighter's voice with him to the unlocked door, the low purr of its vibration in the air like a newly-plucked string — different from any other he's known. Heat and comfort in the parting syllables.]
