ΒAm I really supposed to fill all this out? It's so long...
There's not much to tell. Name's Lighter. When I'm not too busy being kidnapped, you can find me in the Outer Ring. As the undefeated Champion, I defend the honor of the Sons of Calydon.
Here? Just playing the game.
Settling scores with my fists. Oh, and I'm not half bad at errands.
Caesar's more of the reader between us, but she never lets me touch the books I pick up for her. Movies... disaster? Romance is alright too. Music is whatever's playing in Steeltusk. Though when boss and Lucy get on the piano, it's got a nice sound to it. As for food... anything convenient and edible. Taste is a bonus, I guess. On the go or in a Hollow, lollipops work fine for me.
[ he left this blank like a coward. ]
Beer, if there's no Nitro-Fuel around.
Β Β .02 CLOWNS OR MIMES
...Clowns?
Β Β .03 SHOWER OR BATH
Shower, it's more convenient.
Β Β .04 PIRATES OR NINJAS
Pirates. Hollow bandits are pretty similar.
Β Β .05 TITS OR ASS
Uhh. Either, I suppose...
Β Β .06 COFFEE OR TEA
Coffee.
Β Β .07 SPICY OR SWEET
Sweet.
Β Β .08 SUMMER OR WINTER
Summer. Not much winter to speak of at home.
Β Β Β .09 LEATHER OR LACE
Leather. Easier to clean.
Β Β 10. ROUGH SEX OR GENTLE SEX
Hey, who's asking?

Do you know how to play, Lighter?
no subject
Not one bit. I liked the sound of it, though.
no subject
[As thanks, he doesn't say, for trusting him with this story.]
I may be... a bit rusty, but nothing that some regimented practice wouldn't fix. I've seen a few pianos in the lounges. Perhaps they'll let guests borrow them, though I'd prefer not to have an audience with us.
no subject
Don't think I'll be renting out any lounges soon, but I'm sure we can work something out. [ Surely, even this place must have an afterhours... ] Where'd you learn?
no subject
[Boasting, to anyone else — Sunday only sounds embarrassed to share it.]
My sister sings. In order to help her practice, I learned how to play. Well... I did have access to teachers, I won't deny that. But I wasn't the sort of person who took to ordinary instruction. [A short laugh, made mostly of breath.] What do you miss the most about the Outer Ring?
no subject
[ Drumming gloved fingertips against the inner corners of his elbows, he's quiet a moment in consideration. ]
It's gotta be the open roads. Have you ever been on a joyride?
no subject
[Penacony has self-driving cars. Alas, not even the speed limit was allowed to be broken.]
Tell me about what it's like?
no subject
[ He Knew. But it's fine. ]
On a motorcycle, you can race as fast as you can in any direction and there'll still be open road and open sky waiting for you. Wind whistling in your ears, catching air off the bluffs, no speed limits. It's really the best feeling.
[ An audible shrug, as if he's trying to roll the want of it off of his shoulders. ]
It's a shame I can't offer you that like you can offer me a song.
no subject
[So much that he can envision it, as limited as that imagination still feels after such a lifetime behind the strict walls of the Dreamscape. Even his heart ticks a little faster.]
That's all right. I'm certain there are other things you would be able to show me. [And, horrifyingly in the moment, he realizes how it sounds — fortunate Lighter cannot see the flush of his face.] Ah, not — I don't mean in the way this place would have us do. [Ahem.] For a moment, picturing it, I almost forgot where we were.
no subject
Yeah. I mean, I'm not opposed. [ Lighter, however, doesn't clarify because being self aware will kill you, actually. ] It's probably better, besides. To be able to forget where we are sometimes.
[ Touching his fingers to the bridge of his glasses out of habit, he considers. ]
What was the last thing you did for fun, anyway?
no subject
You may have to tell me how you interpret the word "fun."
[Strong start.]
I... honestly couldn't say. And I'm aware how it sounds, but my position prior to — here, wasn't one that afforded much personal time, let alone endeavors of entertainment. [A cold irony, hailing from the Planet of Festivities. His voice sobers.] My work was very important to me. Now that I find myself with such boundless freedom, I admit, it's hard to even remember what I might consider enjoyable.
no subject
[ So maybe he's a little aware. But only a little. ]
I know this isn't the best setting for it, but I hope you can remember eventually.
no subject
It sounds as though the both of us could use a lesson in... taking a break, then.
[He wouldn't dare say vacation, since that is not his view of these newly changed circumstances, but he suspects Lighter understands.]
Your teammates? Will you tell me about them?
no subject
[ Humor colors the smokiness of his voice. He has no ideas on how just yet, given his unfamiliarity with the lay of the land, so to speak — but surely, something will give with time. ]
Ahah, sure. My teammates and I — we're the Sons of Calydon. One of the Outer Ring's biker gangs. My boss, Caesar, is the leader. Piper drives our big rig. Lucy... fancies herself our diplomat. And outside of a fire fight, Burnice is a great bartender.
no subject
[Only a guess, given how little he knows of Lighter still — a grasping at that inner nature. The man seems kind, forgiving, unassuming. How easily would he settle into the working nature of reliance upon teammates? Was it difficult for him? How long, then, has he been part of this 'Sons of Calydon'?]
A biker gang, though... I've never imagined such a thing. And there are others in the Outer Ring besides yourselves? If resources are scarce, it must be competitive.
no subject
Yeah. But any one of them showing up here... let's just say I'd probably better understand how it is you feel about your sister joining you.
[ at least on the surface level........ ]
But there are others. You run into a rogue gang or bandits every now and again, but most gangs belong to the Motor League. The Outer Ring depends on the gangs for protection and supplies, so it's not totally lawless. ...Doesn't make any of 'em less rowdy, though.
no subject
'Rowdy' is certainly a good descriptor for what I was imagining. It is... very different from what I'm used to, I have to say, so my frame of reference may be lacking.
[Biker gangs, bandits... wastelands... A whole other world.]
I'm sure you'll be able to return to your teammates eventually. Or rather, I'll be wishing that for you. Thank you for telling me about them.
no subject
Thanks. I know it doesn't exactly match up with the image you'd expect of someone in a lawless biker gang, but even the Outer Ring is a place where you can get plenty by bowing your head or bending a knee. I'd do anything to get back to them.
[ A surreptitious and single-minded urge, underscored more by what he isn't saying. ]
So. What position do you have at home that's got you so cooped up, in comparison?
no subject
Oh, well... I don't know that it's worth getting into. It certainly wouldn't be as compelling as the Sons of Calydon.
[How the turn tables. Strange that he can discuss such a tender thing as his sister, but when it comes to his own notoriety, the failure of those steps that have carried him here with a shadow at his back... Shame aches, shockingly breathless.]
It was a position of power, I suppose, but it wouldn't mean much to you without explaining... other things. You would probably regret asking. The important part is that I — left.
no subject
His curiosity sates and that's a deliberate choice he makes, crossing his arms over his middle. ]
It's true that we're on a bit of a time limit. [ Thirty minutes, if he recalls. ] Another time, then. Over lunch, preferably, rather than all this.
[ An idle invitation for later, to take or to leave. ]
Did you leave by choice?
no subject
[And, how strange, that he dislikes the idea of that inevitable ending. He's enjoying this, even as they visit a topic that remains a raw wound in him, freshly scoured.]
But no, I didn't. I would have stayed if things had gone differently, but... I suspect it was an inevitable outcome. A necessary one. [A soft exhalation.] Still, failure besets everyone uniquely. What do you do when your goal is no longer attainable?
no subject
Sniffing slightly, thoughts coalescing as he rubs the empty space between his collarbones, he settles on: ]
You change your heart. And if you can't do it alone, you find people who'll help you.
no subject
[He means it, even if a lightness touches his tone now — but only because he is smiling unseen. How strange, that such encouragement would leave him feeling warm rather than left out in the cold, as so many other sentiments have in the past.]
Are you volunteering yourself, sir?
no subject
I told you, didn't I? If you're having trouble, come and find me. Even if it's rewriting your fate.
